I am an austrian artist, born in Vienna.
My family name comes from the Middle High German word "vrî ". It means something like "born free; carefree; fearless".
It was a reference to the social standing or the nature of the person who was called that.
The old spelling has changed to "Frey". The pronunciation is also the same as "free" and it means the same thing. That suits me perfectly.
The combination with "space" was obvious when I opened my private showroom.
Called "FREYRAUM"
This space does have boundaries, but within boundaries you should move as freely as possible. The larger the space, the greater the freedom.
The worldwide web now offers to everyone the opportunity to expand his freedom enormously and that is exactly what I use my FREYRAUM for.
